Boe & Mogensen Win Their Second Korea Open Title

Date
14 January 2014

At the beginning of the 2014 season, Mathias Boe (VT80) and Carsten Mogensen (ARC-FBSHBF1NLTD) captured their second title at the Korea Open. Lee Chong Wei (VTZFSHB01LTD) and Ratchanok Intanon (ARC-FB,SHBF1NLX) were runners-up in singles events.

After winning the semifinal against world No. 6 Hiroyuki Endo (VTZF)/Kenichi Hayakawa at a close 22-20 22-20, Mathias/Carsten faced Chinese Fu Haifeng/Hong Wei. Showing superb defence against their opponents‘ hard smashes, the Danes controlled the rally, grasping the match for their own. The Chinese duo broke under the pressure of Mathias/Carsten’s attacks, with the Danes finishing the match with a score of 21-12 21-17. “So happy with the win here in Seoul. After a 2013 where we didn‘t win a SS tournament, it feels really great to be back on top.” they commented on their Facebook page.

As of this year, the Malaysia Open will be held as a Superseries Premier tournament for the first time, between January 14th and 19th, and YONEX is proud to support this tournament as the official equipment supplier. Chong Wei, the No. 1 seed in men’s singles, is aiming for his seventh consecutive title there. Mohammad Ahsan (ARC-FB) and Hendra Setiawan (NR800SHBF1NLTD) are seeded as No. 1 in men’s doubles, and intend to defend their title. Mathias and Carsten are the No. 2 seed. Ratchanok is the No. 3 seed in women’s singles, with Kamilla Rytter Juhl (NR-ZSP) and Christinna Pedersen(NR800SHB-01LX) seeded as No. 2 in women’s doubles.
