Lee, Tago, Ahsan/Setiawan & Juhl/Pedersen Qualify for Semi-Finals

December 12th marked day 2 of the BWF World Superseries Finals. Malaysian fans have flooded the courtside, with levels of excitement running high at Stadium Badminton in Kuala Lumpur.

In men’s singles, Lee Chong Wei (VTZFSHB01LTD) and Kenichi Tago (NR-ZSP) won two matches in each group. Chong Wei defeated Wang Zhengming by 21-10 21-18 in the first match bringing their head-to-head record to 10-0. Lee dominated in his next match against Boonsak Ponsana, leaving his opponent in the dust with his great speed, winning by 21-6 21-8.  Kenichi played a tough opener against Hu Yun (NR-ZSP), winning at 20-22 24-22 21-17 in a neck-and-neck match. In the following match, Kenichi defeated Indonesia’s Sony Dwi Kuncoro for the first time with a final score of 12-21 21-19 21-17.

The world No. 1 duo Mohammad Ahsan (ARC-FBSHBF1NLTD)/Hendra Setiawan (NR800SHBF1NLTD) and Hiroyuki Endo (VTZF)/Kenichi Hayakawa are expected to go through to the semi-finals with two victories each. Hiroyuki/Kenichi defeated defending champion Mathias Boe(VT80)/Carsten Mogensen (ARC-FBSHBF1NLTD) by 21-18 21-15.

Kamilla Rytter Juhl (NR-ZSP) and Christinna Pedersen(NR800SHB-01LX) took two victories in Group B of women’s doubles. They played a long and tough match against Reika Kakiiwa (AT900T)/Miyuki Maeda (VT70). The final score was 19-21 21-16 21-16. Christinna also won 2 matches in the mixed doubles with Joachim Fischer Nielsen.

With these wins, Chong Wei, Kenichi, Mohammad/Hendra and Kamilla/Christinna have secured the spots in the semi-finals; meanwhile Christinna has advanced to the mixed doubles semi-finals with Fischer.

Special mini-shoe key chains are being sold at the event. Many people have flocked to buy them, despite it the tournament being held during the week.
