Malaysia Wins Third Consecutive Commonwealth Games Gold Medal

July 28th, 2014 saw a heated finals in the badminton mixed team competition at the Common Wealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Malaysia came out on top, winning their third consecutive gold medal at the Games. England received the silver, Singapore received the bronze, and India came in fourth.

In mixed doubles, Chris Adcock (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE II, SHB-01MX) and Gabrielle Adcock (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE II, SHBSC4LX) overwhelmed the Malaysian pair of Chan Peng Soon (ARCSABER 10, SHB87LTD)/Lai Pei Jing (NANORAY 700RP, SHB01LTD) in their match, taking it at 21-14, 26-28. However, Malaysia started to close in sharply on the English team in the remaining events, with Chong Wei Feng (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE II, SHBF1NLTD) coming out victorious in a close match against Rajiv Ouseph (NANORAY 900, SHB01LTD) that ended at 21-17, 19-21, 21-19. Men’s doubles saw Tan Wee Kiong (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE, SHB87LTD)/Goh V Shem (ARCSABER 11, SHB87LTD) against Chris Adcock (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE II, SHB-01MX)/Andrew Ellis (VOLTRIC 80, SHB-01MX), with a 21-19 21-17 victory for the Malaysian pair. Women’s singles had Jing Yi Tee (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE) and Sarah Walker (VOLTRIC 70, SHB-01LX) against each other on the court, with Yi Tee winning at 21-16,21-17.
