- 15 December 2013
On the last day of the BWF World Superseries Finals, Stadium Badminton Kuala Lumpur was bursting at the seams with excitement, as Malaysian fans piled in to see their favorite athletes perform. Lee Chong Wei (VTZF, SHB01LTD), Mohammad Ahsan (ARC-FB)/Hendra Setiawan (NR800, SHBF1NLTD), Kamilla Rytter Juhl (NR-ZSP)/Christinna Pedersen(NR800, SHB-01LX) took home Superseries titles in this exciting end-of-the-year event.
Against Tommy Sugiarto (ARC11), Chong Wei showed the home crowd a new side to his badminton game. Chong Wei delivered several devastating smashes, giving Tommy few chances to attack. With full control of the rally, Chong Wei defeated Tommy to win the title with a score of 21-10 21-12.
Mohammad and Hendra have boasted great performance throughout the year, grasping several major titles, such as the World Championships in August. They played against Kim Ki Jung/Kim Sa Rang of Korea for the title. Beating the Korean pair to the punch at every turn, Mohammad/Hendra played an aggressive match. The Indonesian duo took the title with 21-14 21-16.
Kamilla/Christinna faced China‘s Ma Jin/Tang Jinhua, who defeated the Danish duo twice earlier this year. Kamilla/Christinna aggressively put pressure on the Chinese pair with drives that kept them at the end of the court. With rapid-fire shots, they finally defeated the Chinese duo with 21-19 21-12. “Can not describe with words how happy we feel right now“, commented the Danes on their Facebook page.
Christinna also seized the mixed doubles title. She and Joachim Fischer Nielsen had a tough match against China‘s Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei. They lost the first game by 21-12, but tied the match in a nail-biting second game, 21-19. The decider saw the Danish pair attacking with intense speed unseen in the previous games, finally winning the match at 12-21 21-19 21-10.
