Incredible Spin from The World’s First Precision-Forged Face: EZONE W 501 Wedge

Date
14 March 2019

Yonex Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce the release of the EZONE W 501 Wedge, featuring the world’s first ultra-precision-forged face to produce amazing amounts of spin, releasing in late March 2019.

The unique face of the EZONE W 501 Wedge contains the world’s first micro-convex forgedface*1: 25 μ (0.025 mm) high ridges on the face between the grooves, which help to grip the ball and produce incredible spin. These micro-convex ridges are made possible by ultra-precise forging in Japan.

Additionally, the micro-convex ridges remove more water away from the ball strike while playing in wet conditions. So even when wet, the ridges increase the contact area between the face and ball creating more grip and preventing slipping, so incredible spin and distance control are maintained whatever the weather conditions.

The EZONE W 501 Wedge includes Tour-proven G-BRID Technology (Graphite Hybrid) crafted into the cavity, creating a softer hitting feel at impact by suppressing unwanted vibrations, while also producing a lower center of gravity. Furthermore, the Vacuum Heat Treatment*2 manufacturing technique reduces inconsistencies in the steel and further enhances the super soft feel by approximately 20% (when compared to traditional forgings).

The new EZONE W 501 Wedge combines the latest technologies from Yonex Niigata manufacturing Headquarters in an outstanding wedge that provides a stable shot with outstanding spin.

INNOVATION

1.    Incredible spin produced by the world’s first ultra-precise, micro-convex forged face

25 μ (0.025 mm) micro-convex forged ridges, which sit on the face between each of the grooves, grip the ball surface, greatly improving spin on the ball. Even when wet, the convex ridges prevent water from interfering with direct contact between the club face and ball, so the stable, high spin shots can be hit regardless of the weather conditions.

2.     G-BRID (Graphite Hybrid) Structure and Vacuum Heat Treatment* for vibration dampening and a super soft hitting feeling

By filling the cavity with a Graphite dampening material (G-BRID), unwanted vibrations are reduced for an improved ball striking feel. It also produces a lower and deeper center of gravity, increasing the size of the sweet area for improved playability.

Furthermore, the Vacuum Heat Treatment manufacturing technique makes the forging approximately 20% softer than other forgings for maximum ball control and a super soft feel preferred by professionals and advanced players.
