Three YONEX Players Reach the Semifinals in Indian Wells
- 15 March 2013
The BNP Paribas Open, one of the biggest events behind the Grand Slam tournaments, is reaching its climax. With three of YONEX’s players progressing to the women’s singles semifinals, we couldn’t be more proud of them.
No. 13 seed Maria Kirilenko (EZONE Xi 98, PTGP125) has been maintaining good form throughout the tournament, defeating the world’s top 10 players, like No. 3 seed Agnieszka Radwanska in the 4th round. Maria hit 6 breaks to take the close match by 6-1 4-6 7-5 in 2 hours 27 minutes. She then faced 2011 Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova in the quarterfinals. She overcame her tough opponent, reaching the last 4 in the Indian Wells for the first time. Aiming for her second title in 2013, Maria plays against the former world No.1 Maria Sharapova in the semifinals.
Two VCORE Xi players, No. 4 seed Angelique Kerber (VCORE Xi 100) and No. 8 seed Caroline Wozniacki (VCORE Xi 100) also advanced to the semifinals, and they meet in the next match to compete for either one of their first finals of the year.
