Angie Reaches Bank of the West Classic Final; Pico Reaches Kitzbühel Semifinal

04 August 2014

August 3rd, 2014 marked the last day of the Bank of the West Classic, with VCORE player Angelique Kerber (VCORE Xi 100) reaching the final. In the preceding semifinal match, Angie went up against Varvara Lepchenko. Despite a slow start, Angie made an amazing comeback, fending off a match point at 6-4 5-4, and managing to convert five breakpoints. Surprised by her own victory, Angie had this to say about the match, "I have no idea how I did it. I was just trying to fight until the last point and believe in me, and just try to change my game in the middle of the match, but I have no idea how I won." The final score was 4-6 7-6(4) 6-2.

Angie met Serena Williams in the final. She played well, and led by 5-1 in the beginning of the first set. Unfortunately, she didn’t get the title.

Coming off his excellent performance at Gstaad, Juan “Pico” Monaco (VCORE Xi 98) made it to the semifinals at the bet-at-home Cup Kitzbühel, where he won in 2008. He faced off against No. 4 seed Andreas Seppi in the quarterfinal. Hitting 52 winners, Juan took the match at 6-2 3-6 6-3. In his semifinal match against Dominic Thiem, he managed to save two break points, while landing one against his opponent. However, he was unable to win against the Austrian. Between making it to the finals in Gstaad and making it to the semifinals in Kitzbühel, Pico is doing really well. Be sure to keep your eyes on him!

Both Angie and Pico are seeing great results with their VCORE Xi racquets. The VCORE Xi takes YONEX’s ISOMETRIC head shame to a new level, allowing for better response and control due to an expanded sweet spot. Read more about the VCORE Xi and other VCORE racquets at the official VCORE site.
