Wawrinka Wins First Grand Slam Title in Melbourne

27 January 2014

Stanislas Wawrinka (VCORE Tour G, SHT-PROEX) achieved his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open on Sunday, defeating top seeded Rafael Nadal with 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 score line. Stan overcame the world No.1 Spaniard for the first time in their 13th match-up.

In his first-ever Grand Slam final, Stan showed outstanding attacking form against the toughest rival enough to hit 19 aces and 53 winners. Capitalizing on five of 15 break points, he captured one of the most significant crowns on his 36th Grand Slam appearance. Stan moved ahead to World No.3 and Swiss No. 1 after becoming the 36th man in the Open Era to claim his first major title in his first major final.

Stan’s breakthrough made a mark that he became the first man to defeat the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds in a Grand Slam tournament since Sergi Bruguera at the 1993 Roland Garros. It’s also first achievement in his career that Stan has recorded three consecutive wins against world top 10 players, Novak Djokovic, Tomas Berdych and Rafael Nadal.

From the beginning of the 2014 season, Stan stays unbeaten to win the Aircel Chennai Open and the Australian Open with his new racquet VCORE Tour G. We are so proud of Stan’s great triumph as the whole equipment supplier, and thank you very much for your big support during his competition in Melbourne!
