Kirilenko and Lisicki Meet at Pattaya Open Final
- 04 February 2013
Following the Australian Open, the next WTA tournament—the PTT Pattaya Open—was held from January 27th to February 3rd in Thailand. Two YONEX players, Maria Kirilenko (EZONE Xi 98, PTGP125) and Sabine Lisicki (VCORE Tour 97, PTGSPN) reached the women’s singles final.
In the match, No. 2 seed Maria played solidly against Sabine’s aggressive game. Sabine attacked, overcoming Maria with 12 aces in her service games; however, Maria converted six of ten break chances. Maria’s gutsy play came out on top over Sabine’s powerful performance, taking the championship match by 5-7 6-1 7-6(6). Maria claimed her sixth singles title of the WTA Tour.
Japanese veteran Kimiko Date-Krumm (S-FIT, PTGSPN) advanced to the doubles final at the Pattaya Open with her partner Casey Dellacqua. They faced Akgul Amanmuradova / Alexandra Panova, defeating them in straight sets by 6-3 6-2. Kimiko captured her 4th WTA doubles title since she won the e-Boks Open on April, 2012.
Maria, Sabine and Kimiko have all been playing with YONEX strings at recent tournaments. Their choices, the PolyTour PRO 125 and the PolyTour SPIN, were selected as the “2012 String of the Year” on tennis string community site, Stringforum. Check out the great news below!
