Bencic Claims Junior Grand Slam Title in Roland Garros

Date
10 June 2013

We are proud of Belinda Bencic (EZONE Xi, PTGH125)’s achievement that she captured her first junior Gland Slam title in Roland Garros on Saturday, June 8th.

Second-seeded Belinda faced No. 5 Antonia Lottner of Germany in the girl’s singles final. She made a good start to secure the first set with four breaks in 23 minutes. Converting seven of her 13 break chances throughout the final, Belinda took the lead to win the championship in straight sets [6-1, 6-3].

16-year-old Belinda became the first Swiss player to claim the girl’s singles title in Roland Garros since Martina Hingis won in 1993 and 1994.

Borna Coric (VCORE Tour 97, PTGSPN) became the semifinalist in the boy’s singles, and the 2011 champion Andrea Hlavackova (RQiS 2 Tour, PTGP125) completed the tournament as the women’s doubles semifinalist for two consecutive years.
