Hlavackova Sets to Doubles Semifinals in Roland Garros

Date
06 June 2013

Roland Garros 2013 is reaching the climax and three YONEX stars played their quarterfinal matches on Day 11. Doubles specialist Andrea Hlavackova (RQiS 2 Tour, PTGP125) showed experienced performance to reach the semifinals for three consecutive years.

Andrea and her partner Lucie Hradecka met Cara Black / Marina Erakovic, who defeated ninth-seeded Anna-Lena Groenefeld / Kveta Peschke in the second round. It was a tough start for the Czech duo that they lost the first set by 2-6, but the doubles experts had experiences enough to play steadily and come back from behind. Having good defence against the opponents’ strong performances, Andrea’s pair capitalized on their break chances to overcome the tough rivals. Winning 4 of 7 break points during the match, the Czech pair secured a 2-6, 7-6(3), 6-4 victory to get the ticket for their third semifinals in Roland Garros.

It was a good tournament for Maria Kirilenko (EZONE Xi 98, PTGP125) that she advanced to the quarterfinals in women’s singles of Roland Garros for the first time. Following this result, Maria also achieves to break into the world top 10 in WTA ranking.

Aiming for the junior Grand Slam titles, two YONEX teens fight their quarterfinal matches today. Borna Coric (VCORE Tour 97, PTGSPN), who won a 5-7, 6-0, 8-6 victory against Number 11 seed Johan Sebastien Tatlot in the third round of boy’s singles, faces No. 13 seed Guillermo Nunez of Chile. Meanwhile, in the girl’s singles, Belinda Bencic (EZONE Xi, PTGH125) meets No. 11 seed American Taylor Townsend.
