Stan and Maria Advance to the Second Week

Date
03 June 2013

It was a good weekend for two YONEX players, Stanislas Wawrinka (VCORE Tour 97) and Maria Kirilenko (EZONE Xi 98, PTGP125), that they reached the fourth round in Roland Garros.

After winning a 6-2, 7-6(2), 6-4 victory against Argentina’s Horacio Zeballos, Number 9 seed Stan met No. 21 Jerzy Janowicz of Poland at the third round. He showed superior attacking performance to take the initiative, and overwhelmed the opponent with 9 aces and 48 winners throughout the match. Stan’s offensive approach achieved five of his 14 break chances to secure a win after playing four sets [6-3, 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-3]. As a result Stan have reached the fourth round of Roland Garros for 4 consecutive years, and now he is ready for today’s match against No. 7 seed Richard Gasquet of France to record his best result in Paris.

In the women’s singles event, twelfth-seeded Maria maintains great form to progress to the fourth round without losing any sets. She took only 58 minutes to overpower Ashleigh Barty of Australia at the second round with 6-3, 6-1 score line.  Regarding the following match, it was a tough fight exceeding 2 hours, but Maria played solidly enough to overcome Swiss player Stefanie Voegele in straight sets [7-6(3), 7-5]. Aiming for her first quarterfinal in Roland Garros, Maria faces Bethanie Mattek-Sands of the U.S. at the fourth round bout today.

Please keep up your support for their progress in Paris!
