Wawrinka Makes Semifinal in Tour Finals Debut

Defeating world No. 3 David Ferrer of Spain in the final round-robin match 6-7(3) 6-4 6-1, Stanislas Wawrinka (VCORE Tour 97) reached the last four with two victories in the group stage at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. Stan proved his skills against the world’s top ranked competitors in his first appearance, despite losing to Novak Djokovic on Sunday’s semifinal match.
The 28-year-old Stan became the first player to reach the semifinals in his tournament debut since Robin Soderling in 2009. Following two victories in the ATP World Tour Finals, he ended his journey this year winning 51 matches throughout the season as his career best. Also, Stan will finish with a career-highest No. 8 in the ATP rankings.
