Wawrinka Earns Hard-Fought Victory

04 October 2012

Two of YONEX’s players had a tough day on Wednesday, October 3rd. No. 7 seed Stanislas Wawrinka (VCORE Tour 97SHT308EX) endured a hard match against Jeremy Chardy in round 2 of Rakuten Open Japan.

Throughout the match, Stan and his opponent kept their service games persistently, making it key for them to overcome the return games for winning sets. Stan had more offensive performance on his serves, earning 19 aces while the opponent got eight. Stan lost his service game only once. Finally, in the last set, Stan achieved one break to defeat his opponent by 7-6(1), 6-7(6), 7-5. His persistent and spirited performance brought about a hard-fought victory in 2 hours 38 minutes.

After an overwhelming victory against Grigor Dimitrov in the first round of singles, Juan Monaco (VCORE Xi 98) had a doubles match yesterday. He and Kei Nishikori faced No. 3 seed Santiago Gonzalez and Scott Lipsky, winning by 7-6(1), 6-3.

Juan maintains a positive mind set despite his hard schedule. “As you know, we are professional tennis players, so we are always ready for whatever Singles, Doubles or Mix. We are ready for trying to win this great week here and so just keep going both doubles and singles,” commented Juan after his doubles match.

Don’t miss Stan and Juan in the next round at Ariake Tennis Forest Park.
