Lisicki Sets to Semifinal with Overwhelming Victory

Following a great victory against the defending champion Serena Williams in the fourth round of Wimbledon, No. 23 seed Sabine Lisicki (VCORE Tour 97, PTGSPN) defeated Kaia Kanepi of Estonia to reach the semifinal on the eighth day, July 2nd.
Sabine maintains brilliant form to overcome tough rivals throughout this tournament. In her opener, she overpowered the 2010 Roland Garros champion and former world No. 4 Francesca Schiavone with a 6-1, 6-2 win. After defeating Elena Vesnina who won the Wimbledon preliminary event Aegon International, Sabine scored a comeback win against the 2011 US Open champion Samantha Stosur in the third round.
World No. 24 German also showed solid performance at the quarterfinal match against Kaia Kanepi. She captured 79% of her first serve points and earned 23 winners to overcome the opponent. Achieving four of five break points during the match, Sabine secured a 6-3, 6-3 victory with a crucial drive volley into the open court.
Sabine faces No. 4 seed Agnieszka Radwanska in the semifinals and aims for becoming Germany’s first Grand Slam finalist since Steffi Graf in 1999.
