Wozniacki Wins Her First WTA Title in a Year
- 24 September 2012
Last week Caroline Wozniacki (VCORE 100S) competed at the KDB Korea Open. It was a great week for her, earning an overwhelming victory against No. 3 seed Kaia Kanepi in the final by 6-0 6-1. Caroline won her first WTA title since she won at the New Haven Open in 2011.
In Japan, the Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis has been running since Sunday, September 23rd. It was a rainy day so that some of the matches were postponed. There are ten YONEX ladies in the main draw, and seven of them play in the opener today. 2010’s champion, Caroline, is seeded as No. 10, and faces the qualifier Bojana Jovanovski. Her Korea Open title will likely give her confidence in Tokyo again.
2007’s finalist, No. 11 seed Ana Ivanovic (EZONE Xi 98) faced the other YONEX player, Andrea Hlavackova (RQiS 2 Tour, PTGP125), and Ana advanced to the 2nd round due to Andrea retiring from the match.
Su-Wei Hsieh’s (RDS 002 Tour, PTGP125) opening match is against Klara Zakopalova today. She also played in GRC Bank Guangzhou International Women’s Open last week. Su-Wei advanced to the final and defeated Laura Robson (GBR) by 6-4 6-2. It was her second time winning a WTA tournament title.
