2008 US OPEN Semi Finalist Elena Dementieva

Olympic gold medalist Elena Dementieva (RDS001MP) showed us powerful performances again at USTA National Tennis Center.
Elena won 11 consecutive games since she had won the Gold Medal in Beijing and she reached the last four at the US OPEN.
In the semi finals, she met 2nd seeded Jalena Jankovic (SRB). Elena showed us her improved serves and mental strength through the tournaments. She never lost the set until the semi finals though she couldn't reach the final.
We hope she will play the great games in the next tournament!

5th seeded Elena Dementieva (RDS001MP) had another excellent game on the 9th day in New York.
She won straight over Patty Schnyder (SUI) with a 6-2, 6-3 victory and moved into semi finals. Elena hasn’t drop the set yet at the US OPEN this year. The Swiss got into trouble with Elena’s powerful shot and she made 29 unforced, while Elena’s 14.
Elena is going to face world No.2 Jelena Jankovic (SRB) in the semi finals.
Argentine Juan Monaco (RDS002Tour) advanced to the semi finals in his doubles tournaments at the US OPEN. Admirably, he won a victory against 4th seeded pair en route, though he lost his singles match in the early round.

The 7th day of the US OPEN, Russian Elena Dementieva (RDS001MP) secured a place at the quarter-finals!!
She overwhelmed Chinese Li Na with her improved serves which brought Li’s 28 unforced errors. Elena reached the last eight with a 6-4, 6-1 victory. Elena will next face 15th seeded Patty Schnyder (SUI).
In the women's doubles, former quarter-finalist of the US OPEN, Yan Zi (RQS11) and Zheng Jie (RDS003MP) succeeded to advance to the quarter-finals again this year with come-from-behind victory. They are going to face 1st seeded pair.
Portuguese Rui Machado (RDS002Tour) had the really close game in his 2nd round on the Day 5. Now, he ranked #200 and this was his first Grand Slam match of his career. Please keep your eyes on him in the next tournament!!

On the 4th day in New York, Argentine David Nalbandian (RDS001MP) had another quick workout!!
He won straight over Andrey Golubev (KAZ) with a 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 victory. David played really well, made few unforced errors and had 87% of winning on his first serve. His next opponent is 32nd seeded Geal Monfis (FRA).
Chinese Yan Zi (RQS11) and 2008 Wimbledon singles semifinalist Zheng Jie (RDS003MP) won the 1st round of their doubles match.
This pair has been the US OPEN quarter finalist twice, in 2005 and 2006.

Zheng Jie (RDS003MP), who reached the semifinals at 2008 Wimbledon, also won straight over her opponent and advanced to the 3rd round. She will next face the 2nd seeded Jelena Jankovic (SRB).

Since she had injured her right thumb, her condition has not been so good, however, Ana recovered and won a victory with 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
She is going to face Julie Coin (FRA) in the 2nd round.
Su-Wei Hsieh (RDS002Tour) and Nicole Vaidisova (RQiS1Tour) also advanced to the next round. Both players won straight over their opponents. Especially, Nicole won the first set just in 23 minutes.
Su-Wei will meet 19th-seeded Nadia Petrova (RUS) and Nicole will meet Severine Bremond (FRA) in the 2nd round.
