David Nalbandian (ARG)
Rally and soccer fan David Nalbandian began playing tennis at the age of five in his home town of Cordoba in Argentina.
He caught the eye as a junior, winning the US Open junior title in 1998 and just missing out at the French the following year.
As a senior, his best performance was at Wimbledon in 2002 where he became the first Argentine to reach the final only to lose out to Australia’s Lleyton Hewitt. He also captured his first ATP title in 2002 before making his Davis Cup debut later in the year in Moscow.
He won the end of season Tennis Masters Cup in 2005, beating Federer in the final, and has established the David Nalbandian Foundation which provides programs and projects for people with disabilities.
