    YONEX Open Chinese Taipei 2014 drew a huge crowd of 22,580 spectators to the Taipei Arena throughout the week. In women’s doubles, Indonesia’s Greysia Polii (NANORAY 900, SHBF1NMX)/Nitya Krishinda Maheswari defeated 2013 world champions Wang Xiaoli/Yu Yang of China to win the title. In men’s doubles another Indonesian duo, Hendra Aprida Gunawan (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE, SHB-87EX)/Andrei Adistia, were the champions.

    This year marked the first time the Australian Open has been held as a Superseries tournament, and YONEX’s Saina Nehwal (NANORAY 900) of India was the tournament’s first female champion, defeating Spanish Carolina Marin (NANORAY Z-SPEED, SHBF1NLTD), 21-18 21-11. Michael Fuchs (VOLTRIC 80, SHBSC6iEX)/Birgit Michels (NANORAY 700FX, SHBSC4LX), Ayaka Takahashi/Misaki Matsutomo were runners-up.

    On June 16th, 2014, YONEX renewed its partnership with the Badminton Association of Thailand as the official equipment supplier. In addition to providing the association with badminton equipment, YONEX will also act as the sole sponsor for equipment used in the Thai Open, as well as act as the association’s official shuttlecock supplier.

    The men’s single final saw a characteristically heated and smash-heavy match between Lee Chong Wei (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE 2, SHB01LTD)and Hu Yun (NANORAY 750, SHBF1NLTD). Yun opened with a smash that had the shuttle kissing the net, and from then Lee Chong Wei commenced on his warpath. Smashing straight into his opponent’s body, Chong Wei was up 2-0. After that, it was a series of smashes and runs to the net by way of Chong Wei, snatching up a 6-1 lead.

    After shocking the world by defeating reigning champion China in the semifinal, Japan was crowned with the Thomas Cup title for the first time in history. Japan won in a thrilling final against Malaysia, 3-2, making Japan only the fourth nation to ever win the Thomas Cup. The Japan women’s team also advanced to the final for the first time in 33 years, winning the silver medal. The host country India took home their first ever Uber Cup bronze medal.
