Denmark Open 2018: Team Yonex collects three more titles

Date
22 October 2018

Odense, Denmark — #TeamYonex continued to add to its impressive title count at the DANISA Denmark Open this past weekend, winning gold in three of five categories (as well as silver in all five) with Kento Momota (JPN) in men’s singles, Marcus F Gideon and Kevin S Sukamuljo (INA) in men’s doubles, and Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota (JPN) in women’s doubles.

World No 1 Momota was not unchallenged as he faced off against Chou Tien Chen (TPE), still hot from his win at last month’s Korea Open. The first game was hotly contested, with Momota eventually winning a slim 22-20. But in the second game, Chou roared back and equalized with a 16-21 score. But it was Momota’s unflagging endurance that triumphed in the third game, as he decided it 21-15 at the one hour and seventeen-minute mark.

Fellow World No 1 doubles’ pairs, Gideon & Sukamuljo in men’s, and Fukushima and Hirota in women’s, had an easier go of things, deciding their final matches in straight games. Gideon & Sukamuljo defeated the dynamic Japanese pair of Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda, 21-15, 21-16. Meanwhile, Fukushima & Hirota faced their compatriots Shiho Tanaka and Koharu Yonemoto, and while rallies did run higher than 100 shots, Fukushima & Hirota triumphed 21-19, 21-16.
