Four out of five titles for YONEX players in Malaysia

YONEX-SUNRISE Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 was held from May 2nd to 6th in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. YONEX players from Malaysia won four titles; men’s singles for Lee Chong Wei (VTZF), men’s doubles for Koo Kien Keat (VTZF) / Tan Boon Heong (VTZF), women’s doubles for Chin Eei Hui (TI10) / Wong Pei Tty (TI10) and mixed doubles for Chan Peng Soon (ARC10) / Goh Liu Ying (NR700RP).

The top seed Lee faced former world number 6 Sony Dwi Kuncoro (VT80). Kuncoro took the first game with 21-17 and he allowed Lee to lead only once during the game. However, Lee geared up from the beginning of the second game to capture the home title, 17-21, 21-8, 21-10. Throughout the match, Lee made amazing 18 smash winners while Kuncoro couldn’t earn any of it.
Koo and Tan met a fellow Malaysian pair, Chooi Kah Ming (ARC10) and Ow Yao Han (AT900P). Koo and Tan played aggressively with their VOLTRIC Z-FORCE to win 16 smash winners while the opponents did just 5.The final score was 21-15, 21-19.

In the women’s doubles, former world #2 Chin and Wong won the Grand Prix Gold title to be back to the top level. They faced top seed Shinta Mulia Sari and Lei Yao of Singapore. After winning the first game 21-18, they were led by the opponent until 18-18 during the second game, however, Chin and Wong took 6 consecutive points from 15-18 to close the game, 21-18.
Chan and Goh, who are the semifinalists at the All England, defeated Indonesia’s Fadhilah Irfan (AT900P) and Anggraini Weni (ARC7), 21-12, 21-14 to win their first title this year.
