Goh & Lim, Runners-Up at Malaysia GPG
- 31 March 2014
The Malaysian duo’s year had gotten off to a great start, winning the Malaysia Open Superseries in January. Since then they have maintained great form, advancing to the Grand Prix Gold finals this time around. The semifinal against Indonesian pair Gideon Markus Fernaldi and Markis Kido—the 2013 Yonex French Open winners—proved tough for Goh/Lim, losing the first game by 18-21. The opponents also grabbed the lead right from the start of second game by 3-0—but Goh and Lim weren’t going to be beat. They evened the match by clinching a win in the heart-pounding second game at 21-18. Goh/Lim remained on the offensive for the decider; refusing to allow their opponents the lead, bringing the score to 8-all. Goh sharply controlled the rally, with Lim attacking with powerful smashes. Finally, they finished the match with a quick pushing shot, ending the match at 18-21 21-18 21-17. Goh and Lim boasted their skills in front of their cheering home crowd, despite becoming runners-up upon losing to Danny Bawa Chrisnanta/Chayut Triyachart.
India’s Sourabh Varma (NR700RP), the 2011 Indian National Badminton Champion, also became the runner-up in the men’s singles event.
