Lee, Boe/Mogensen & Pedersen Capture India Open Titles
- 07 April 2014
Lee Chong Wei (VTZF2, SHB01LTD), Mathias Boe (VTZF2)/Carsten Mogensen (VTZF2, SHB87LTD) and Christinna Pedersen (NR800, SHB-01LX) came out victorious at the YONEX-SUNRISE India Open Superseries on Sunday, April 6th.
Defending champion Chong Wei faced off against Chen Long in the final, a repeat of their meeting in the All England Open last month, with Chong Wei dominating once again. With his VOLTRIC Z-FORCE Ⅱ in hand, he smashed powerfully, scoring point after point. His extremely accurate shots put severe pressure on Long, resulting in several errors on Long’s part. Chong Wei played a steady game, accurately controlling the speed of the rallies, leaving Long struggling to keep up. Chong Wei defeated Long with a score of 21-13 21-17, successfully defending his title.
Emerging victorious at January’s Korea Open at the opening of the season, Danish duo Mathias and Carsten also demonstrated great performance with the VOLTRIC Z-FORCE Ⅱ. Up against Chinese pair Liu Xiaolong/Qiu Zihan, who the Danish duo had lost to in the past, the duo saw a loss once again—but only in the first game. When the second game came around, Mathias/Carsten came back with more aggression, smashing the shuttle with more intensity. Swiftly picking up points with their heavy smashes, Mathias and Carsten were finally able to defeat the Chinese duo for the first time, and capture their second title of the year. The final score was 17-21 21-15 21-15.
Christinna, pairing with Joachim Fischer Nielsen in mixed doubles, defeated world No. 1 ranked Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei in the semifinal with 14-21 21-6 21-18. In the final, the 3rd seeded Danish pair faced 4th seeded Ko Sung Hyun/Kim Ha Na from Korea, which turned into a nail-biting match. Christinna/Joachim won the first game, but the Korean duo took the second, with the decider coming down to the wire. At one point, the Danish duo managed to score 4 consecutive points, dramatically bringing their total from 15 points to 17, finishing the game by 21-18. The final score was 21-16 18-21 21-18.
