Malaysia Open Kicks Off as the Newest Superseries Premier Tournament

Date
15 January 2014

Just one month after the BWF World Superseries Finals, the stage of world badminton returns to Malaysia this week for the Malaysia Open, with qualifying matches held on Tuesday, January 14th. Held as a Superseries Premier tournament for the first time, YONEX proudly supports this event, providing an on-site stringing service, as well as shuttlecocks, and other equipment.

Nearly 1,000 people flocked to Putra Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, watching their favorite players in the qualifying matches with great anticipation. YONEX also had a booth inside the stadium, buzzing with shopping fans. The YONEX Stringing Team has been busy, and has already strung over 300 racquets for players.

Malaysian hero Lee Chong Wei (VTZFSHB01LTD) won an impressive seven Superseries titles last year, including Superseries Finals. His sights are now set on his tenth—and seventh consecutive—Malaysia Open title.

Other Superseries Finals winners include Kamilla Rytter Juhl (NR-ZSP) and Christinna Pedersen(NR800SHB-01LX), who commented via their Facebook page on Monday, “We are both happy to be back in KL even though its only 3 weeks since we were here last time. Today we had practice at Putra Stadium. We look forward to play our first match on Wednesday.”

World No. 1 men’s doubles duo, Mohammad Ahsan (ARC-FB) and Hendra Setiawan (NR800SHBF1NLTD) will commence their 2014 season with this tournament as the No. 1 seed. 2014 Korea Open winners, Mathias Boe(VT80) and Carsten Mogensen (ARC-FBSHBF1NLTD) are seeded as No. 2.
