Nehwal Wins India Grand Prix Gold Title

The Syed Modi International India Grand Prix Gold 2014 was held from January 21st to 26th in Lucknow, India. YONEX is proud to have supported this event with our high-quality shuttlecocks, court mats, and other equipment. Local star Saina Nehwal (NR700RP) took home the title, defeating fellow Indian shuttler, Sindhu P.V. (NR700RP).

The No. 1 seeded Saina got off to a good start in the first game, commanding an 8-1 lead against the No. 2 seeded Sindhu, who won the bronze medal in the 2013 World Championships. Saina, after taking the first game by 21-14, began to face a series of aggressive attacks from Sindhu, with Sindhu leading by 0-4 at one point in the second game. Sindhu tried keep the pressure high, however Saina managed to take control of the rally’s speed, defeating Sindhu in a straight game, at 21-14 21-17. Saina took the title for the first time in 15 months. She commented that she had to overcome very hard training for this comeback.
