Sudirman Cup Kicks Off

The world mixed team badminton championships, Sudirman Cup has is held from May 19th to 26th at Putra Stadium, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

In the round robin of Group B, Thailand team faced Hong Kong China team. The first match was the men’s doubles between Maneepong Jongjit (VT80)/Nipitphon Puangpuapech (VT80) and Hong Wong Wai/Lung Chan Yun. This year’s All England semifinalists Maneepong and Nipitphon gave their team a 1-0 lead by defeating the opponents, 21-14 21-18 with aggressive 20 smash winners. World No. 5 in the women’s singles, Ratchanok Inthanon (ARC-FB, SHB01-LX) won the second match against Yip Pui Yin (ARC11), 21-19 21-16, for a 2-0 lead of her team. After the winning of mixed doubles match, Thailand defeated Hong Kong China by 3-2. They will face Korea on Tuesday, May 21st.

In the Group D, Denmark was solid enough to defeat Singapore team, 4-1, with their top level performance by Mathias Boe (VT80), Carsten Mogensen (ARC-FB), Christinna Pedersen(NR800, SHB01-LX) and Kamilla Rytter Juhl(NR800). Mathias and Carsten commented on their Facebook page after the match. “We played a solid men’s doubles and won quite easily. Tuesday we will face a big challenge, Nippon. We are looking forward to it:-)”

The Malaysia team played a close match against Chinese Taipei. Lee Chong Wei(VTZF, SHB01LTD) of men’s singles and Chan Peng Soon (ARC11)/Goh Liu Ying (NR700RP, SHB01LTD) of mixed doubles brought 2 victories to their team, however Chinese Taipei won the last 3 games.
