2014’s Roland Garros: Wawrinka Promises Another Great Performance
- 21 May 2014
May 25th marks the beginning of this year’s Roland Garros. The second of the year’s four big Grand Slam tournaments, top players from around the globe gather to test their skills on Stade Roland Garros’ clay courts in one of the most physically taxing tournaments in the world. Qualifiers kicked off yesterday, with fans eagerly waiting to see who will make it to the tournament itself.
Making it to the quarter-finals of last year’s tournament, YONEX player Stanislas Wawrinka (VCORE Tour G, SHT-PRO) played with excellent form in the fourth round against Richard Gasquet. The Swiss player’s match got off to a rocky start. Richard had the support of the home crowd, and Stanislas just couldn’t get an edge over him for the first two sets. However, making use of his wits to read his opponent, Stanislas upped the pressure, coming out victorious at 6-7(5), 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, 8-6. After winning his first Grand Slam title at this year’s Australian Open, he certainly promises another top performance at this year’s Roland Garros.
In conjunction with the Roland Garros tournament, YONEX is proud to release our Paris model of tennis sportswear. Wearing our Melbourne model in the respective Australian Open, Wawrinka will also wear our Paris model in this year’s tournament. As always, YONEX’s sportswear is made to top-of-the-line standards. Pushing the limits of sportswear technology, this year’s models are specially designed to deliver smooth, consistent performance, no matter what the condition. Shirts are fitted with our VERYCOOL technology that absorbs heat, sweat and cools players down by 3 degrees C, keeping them cooled down in the heat of the game.
