Ana Ivanovic Earns First Grass Court Title
- 16 June 2014
A decade passing since she went pro, Ana Ivanovic (EZONE Ai 98) captured her first and long-desired grass court title at the Aegon Classic on June 15th. She made her way through the tournament without losing a single set, going on to face Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova in the final. Top-seeded Ivanovic shined on the grass court, exhibiting improved performance. Swinging her EZONE Ai, she dominated match with heavy ground strokes, and approached the final with solid aggression. She defeated her un-seeded opponent in straight sets by a great margin at 6-3 6-2.
This is Ivanovic’s 14th win in her career, and her third title of the season. In addition to this fine victory, she has a new-found confidence when playing on grass surfaces, and can proudly step onto the grass courts at Wimbledon with her chin held high on June 23rd. “What a perfect week! I didn’t have many expectations when I arrived in Birmingham, and to win while losing so few games is a dream come true. One of the keys to my victory this week was my aggression – thanks to Yonex for providing me with a racket that allows me to attack with confidence,” commented an elated Ana.
Nick Kyrgios Wins at Aegon Nottingham Challenger
Nick Kyrgios (EZONE Ai 98) won his third ATP Challenger title of the season at the Aegon Nottingham Challenger on June 14th, securing a spot in the Wimbledon main draw as a wildcard. Nick played against fellow Australian Sam Groth in a final match defined by some big hits. The match had to be stopped due to rain late into the second set, but that little setback didn’t stop Nick from taking the match at 7-6(3) 7-6(7). It is said that Nick received a call from Wimbledon officials immediately after his great achievement.
“Wow!! Pleased to get through that!! Always nice to get a call on court from the Wimby Ref saying I have an MD wild card to @Wimbledon! #BOOM,” commented the young Aussie on his Twitter account, @NickKyrgios.
We here at YONEX are looking forward to the further achievements of our players at the upcoming Grand Slam grass-court tournament, Wimbledon!
