Angelique Kerber Wins First WTA Title in Paris

YONEX tennis player Angelique Kerber (VCORE 100S) won at the Open GDF SUEZ final on Sunday, defeating No.7 Marion Bartoli with a 7-6(3) 5-7 6-3 victory, clinching her first WTA title.

Angelique exhibited exceptionally powerful plays throughout the game. Despite losing the second set, she maintained her persistence, and got a 4-0 lead from the beginning of the third set. In the end, she closed the two-hour-and-39-minute match in the center court.

Angelique defeated No.1 seed Maria Sharapova in the quarterfinal in straight sets, 6-4 6-4, moving through the semifinal, and advancing to the final—her first victory against a Top 10 player.

Maria advanced to the PPT Pattaya Open final, competing against third seeded Daniela Hantuchova. Maria won the 72-minute opening set with a tie-break, breaking her opponent's first game, but lost the close match with a score of 6-7(4) 6-3 6-3.

She will play at the Qatar Total Open 2012 this week along with Caroline Wozniacki (VCORE 100S), Ana Ivanovic (EZONE Xi 98) and Angelique Kerber (VCORE 100S).
