Angelique Topples Katarzyna in Round 1

26 May 2014

May 25th marked the first day of Roland Garros, and right off the bat VCORE Xi 100-wielding Angelique Kerber easily took a victory in her first match against Poland’s Katarzyna Piter. Hitting 19 winners and snagging two break points, the 26-year-old German made short work of her opponent, with the game ending at 6-3, 6-1. Making it to the quarterfinals two years ago, she definitely has her sights set on getting further this year. She faces America’s Varvarva Lepchenko in the next round.

With day two on the horizon, matches to keep an eye on include Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka’s (VCORE Tour G, SHT-PRO) match against Spain’s Guillermo Garcia-Lopez. Stanislas has spoken highly of his VCORE Tour G, commenting on how he never loses power with it, and that it allows for high levels of spin.  Ana Ivanovic (EZONE Ai 98) will face off against France’s Caroline Garcia. Ana’s EZONE Ai racquet has seen a lot of positive press recently, and Ana herself has commented on how it has a bigger sweet spot, and allows for more control. Sabine Lisicki (VCORE Tour 97, PTGSPN) will go up against another French competitor, Fiona Ferro. Her VCORE Tour 97 allows for superior offensive play, which is sure to give her an edge on the clay in this year’s Roland Garros.
