New VCORE Tour G Launches with a First-Round Win From Stan
- 14 January 2014
World No. 8 Stanislas Wawrinka won his opening match against Andrey Golubev of Kazakhstan in the first round of 2014’s Australian Open on Monday, January 13th. Since winning the Chennai Open title at the beginning of the 2014 season, Stan has been showing good form with his new VCORE Tour G racquet.
In the opening day of the main draw, two YONEX young players achieved big wins in their first round matches.
Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic (EZONE Ai 100, PTGH125), who won two junior Grand Slam titles at Wimbledon and Roland Garros last year, faced Japanese veteran player Kimiko Date-Krumm (S-FIT, PTGSPN). Belinda is the youngest player in the main draw, and she impressed tennis fans with her performance against the tournament’s most veteran opponent in her senior Grand Slam debut. With a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win, Belinda advanced to the next round to face the No. 4 seed Na Li of China.
Also, 20-year-old Luksika KumKhum (VCORE Xi 98) of Thailand moved ahead to the second round with a great win against the No. 6 seed Petra Kvitova. We interviewed Luksika about her racquet after the match and she said, “I’m pleased with the VCORE Xi 98! It has higher control performance and face stability even when I hit hard.”
Day two will see Lleyton Hewitt (VCORE Tour 97) and Nick Kyrgios (EZONE Ai 98) appear on the court to compete in their openers. Lleyton faces the No. 24 seed Andreas Seppi and Nick plays against Benjamin Becker of Germany today.
