Caroline Wins Opening Match

It was just a day after Caroline Wozniacki’s (VCORE) victory in Korea, that she made her first appearance in Tokyo on Monday September 25th.

Caroline played solidly, taking the opening set with 6-0. However, in the second set, her opponent showed persistence during rallies and Caroline couldn’t close the match in the straight sets. After a rain break at the centre court, Caroline came back aggressively with her powerful shots and won the match with 6-0, 3-6, 6-4.

Caroline said that she was trying to relax during final set’s rain break. Rested up, she took the final set with flying colours.

Caroline will face Slovak Daniela Hantuchova at the second round in today’s night session.

This is a local Asian tournament for Chinese Zheng Jie (EZONE Xi 98,PTGSPN), and she met American Vania King in the opener. Attacking with her EZONE Xi racquet, Jie defeated her American opponent in straight sets by 6-3, 6-4. Today she is participating in two matches, one singles and one doubles.

World No. 6 ranked Angelique Kerber (VCORE) will play her first match in this tournament. She faces local Japanese player Ayumi Morita (EZONE XiPTGSPN), who defeated Sorana Cirstea in the opener by 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
