- 22 July 2013
Doubles expert Andrea Hlavackova (RQiS 2 Tour, PTGP125), who won 13 WTA Double titles, played singles event at Nurnberger Gastein Ladies 2013 in Bad Gastein, Austria last week. She became the runner-up.
In the semifinals, Andrea faced Elina Svitolina of Ukraine who defeated No. 6 seed Chanelle Scheepers in the second round. It was a tough marathon match for them but Andrea made 20 break chances to overcome the opponent. Capturing 11 break points, Andrea won the hard-fought victory with a 7-5, 6-7(1), 6-4 score line in 2 hours 31 minutes. It was the first time for Andrea to reach the WTA singles final in her career.
VCORE player Juan Monaco (VCORE Xi 98)(ARG) competed at bet-at-home Open in Hamburg, Germany. He entered this tournament as the defending champion, and advanced to the quarterfinals defeating No. 9 seed Benoit Paire of France with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 victory. It would give Juan confidence to overcome the French player who became the quarterfinalist in Australian Open this year, though he couldn’t reach the semifinals.
