Lisicki Wins Doubles Title in Stuttgart
- 30 April 2013
The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, one of the WTA Premier tournaments, was held from April 22nd to the 28th in Stuttgart, Germany. YONEX player Sabine Lisicki (VCORE Tour 97, PTGSPN) entered the doubles event as the wild card, and impressed local fans by claiming the title with Mona Barthel in her home country.
After defeating Darija Jurak / Katalin Marosi—who overcame No. 4 seeds Raquel Kops-Jones / Abigail Spears—Sabine and her partner faced Bethanie Mattek-Sands / Sania Mirza in the final. They were tough opponents—winning the opener against second seeds Nadia Petrova / Katarina Srebotnik—but the German pair demonstrated solid performances, keeping all their service games and breaking three times. Sabine and Mona played very well throughout the tournament, nabbing the championship title. It was Sabine’s second doubles title in Stuttgart since she won it with Samantha Stosur in 2011.
Sabine is now competing in WTA tournaments with YONEX’s POLYTOUR SPIN tennis strings, which recently received the honour of “Newcomer of the Year 2012” on the tennis string community site, Stringforum. (German version)
She is pleased with the pentagon-shaped strings, “I get more power and control with this string. Even after the bounce, my shots never lose spin. I like this blue colour very much and hope to play well with this string during the season.”
