China’s Zheng Jie Sets to the 3rd Round

31 May 2013

On Day 5 of the 2013 Roland Garros, some matches were postponed before they were played out due to the rainy condition. Stanislas Wawrinka (VCORE Tour 97) and Maria Kirilenko (EZONE Xi 98, PTGP125) are going to restart their second round matches today.

Meanwhile China’s Zheng Jie (EZONE Xi 98, PTGSPN) completed her second bout with a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Melanie Oudin of the U.S. She put in a robust performance even while receiving, and secured 7 of 9 break chances. Earning 20 winners during the match, Jie overcame the opponent in one hour and 19 minutes. She has reached the third round in Roland Garros for the first time since 2008.

Also two YONEX players recorded victories in the women’s doubles event. The 2011 Roland Garros champions Andrea Hlavackova (RQiS 2 Tour, PTGP125) / Lucie Hradecka met the French pair Alize Lim / Aravane Rezai at the first round. The doubles expert Andrea and her partner have a lot of experience enough to overpower the opponents with a 6-0, 6-3 score line.

VCORE player Sabine Lisicki (VCORE Tour 97, PTGSPN), who advanced to the third round in the women’s singles, played the doubles opener with Janette Husarova to face Eva Hrdinova / Bojana Jovanovski. Sabine’s duo had a good defence to keep their service games, and the solid performance brought a win after three sets [4-6, 6-1, 6-4]. Sabine achieved her first doubles victory in Roland Garros.
