Wawrinka Plays Aggressively to Win Opener

29 May 2013

World top ten-ranked Stanislas Wawrinka (VCORE Tour 97), who claimed the Portugal Open title and reached the Madrid Open finals on clay this season, entered Roland Garros 2013 with the confidence of a winner.

With his solid preparation for the year’s biggest tournament on clay, Stan appeared on court to meet the Dutch player, Thiemo De Bakker, on the 3rd day. This was their first match-up and Stan put on a superior attacking performance with his VCORE racquet to overwhelm his opponent. His serves were especially powerful, enabling him to win 78% of his first serve points including nine aces. Stan maintained his aggressive style while receiving, leading to 15 break chances during the match compared to his opponent’s four. Powering his way to 55 winners and four breaks of serve, Stan defeated the Dutchman 7-5, 6-3, 6-7(1), 7-5.
