EZONE Players Set for 2nd Round with Crushing Wins

Date
28 August 2013

Two EZONE players, Ana Ivanovic (EZONE Xi 98) and Maria Kirilenko (EZONE Xi 98, PTGP125), had great starts to their campaigns by overpowering their opponents in the opening round on Day 2 of the US Open.

Ana, last year’s US Open quarterfinalist, faced Anna Tatishvili of Georgia on Tuesday. After taking the first set with four breaks, the 13th seeded Serbian also demonstrated superior attacking ability to overcome her opponent without the loss of any more games at 6-0. Ana completed her victory in just 58 minutes of play, and enthused, “Once I found my rhythm, I sort of felt more comfortable as the match went on. I felt the game plan sort of settled in. I was very pleased with my performance at the end,” according to her official website.

Ana will face Romania’s Alexandra Dulgheru in her second round match on Thursday.

Another EZONE racquet user, Maria, also impressed with a crushing victory against Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium in the first round. She put in a steady performance to hold serve throughout, winning 86% of her first serve points during the match. After 59 minutes of play, Maria had overwhelmed her opponent, relinquishing just one game in each set – 6-1, 6-1.

In the women’s doubles, former US Open doubles champion, Martina Hingis, finally returns to the stage on Wednesday. She and her partner, Daniela Hantuchova, face the top-seeded Italian pairing of Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci.
