Zheng Jie Claims Doubles Title in New Haven

Jie and her partner faced No. 2 seed Anabel Medina Garrigues and Katarina Srebotnik in the final. They took control of the match to capitalize on break chances. Capturing 5 of 10 break points, the Asian pair defeated the opponents in straight sets [6-3, 6-4] to become the champions.
Jie said, “I think this is a good start and gives us big confidence for the US Open,” according to the WTA website. This is her 15th WTA doubles title and second in New Haven since 2006.
The qualifying tournament of US Open was completed last week and three YONEX players advanced to the main draw. 18-year-old Australian Nick Kyrgios (EZONE Xi 98) played against Malek Jaziri of Tunisia in the final round. Showing solid performance on his serving games with 73% success in first serve points, he defeated the opponent by 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to get through the qualifier. Nick faces No. 4 seed David Ferrer of Spain in today’s opener.
In the women’s singles, the local player Coco Vandeweghe (EZONE Xi 98) also qualified to play against Aleksandra Krunic of Serbia in the first round today. She aims for second win in the US Open since 2011.
