Wawrinka Wins Chennai Open Doubles Title

07 January 2013

The opening tournament of the new 2013 season, the Aircel Chennai Open, recently concluded on January 6th. YONEX player Stanislas Wawrinka (VCORE Tour 97) competed in both singles and doubles.

In men’s doubles, Stan played with Benoit Paire of France and advanced to the final. They faced Andre Begemann / Martin Emmrich of Germany and defeated their opponents in straight sets by 6-2, 6-1, winning their first doubles title at the tournament. The champions overcame the German pair in 56 minutes with two breaks in each set. This is Stan’s second doubles title in his career and he reached the last 8 in men’s singles.

During the tournament, Stan played with new clothing, the TW1616EX and TW2111EX. In the doubles final, he selected the white shirt and the navy blue pants. The new TW1616EX shirt has three superior characteristics: The first is its VERY COOL technology which lowers body heat by 3 degrees for cooler play. The second are the ‘cross shaped’ fibres which create a fabric for absorbing sweat, drying quickly and lightening weight. The third is static electricity removal by carbon impregnated conductive fibres.

At the end of last year, Stan went to Switzerland with our camera crew. They caught a lot of good footage, so be sure to check it out when it’s online!
