26 June 2013

20-year-old Australian promising player, Bernard Tomic (VCORE Tour 97) faced a tough opener against Number 21 seed Sam Querrey of United States on the second day of Wimbledon.

Bernard showed spirited and persistent performance against the opponent’s vigorous attacks to keep his service games. The American rival earned 36 service aces and 79 winners throughout the match, but especially in the final set, Bernard captured 80% of his first serve points to edge the fight with a 7-6(6) 7-6(3) 3-6 2-6 6-3 score line.

In the ladies’ singles, two VCORE players moved ahead to the second round with good wins. No. 23 seed Sabine Lisicki (VCORE Tour 97, PTGSPN) had strong attacking ability to overpower the Italian veteran Francesca Schiavone winning by 6-1 6-2. Sabine earned 5 service aces and 25 winners against the 2010 Roland Garros champion and completed the match in 1 hour 4 minutes. Also, No. 7 seed Angelique Kerber (VCORE Xi 100) defeated Bethanie Mattek-Sands in straight sets aiming for breaking her record as the last year’s semifinalist in Wimbledon.
