Wimbledon 2014 Seeds Announced: Angelique, Ana and Stan Confirmed
- 19 June 2014
The seeds for this year’s Wimbledon have been announced, and several of YONEX’s players have been selected.
Among the seeded players is Angelique Kerber (VCORE Xi 100), seeded at number nine. Angie made it to the semifinals in 2012’s tournament, demonstrating excellent performance on her way to the top. Amongst her achievements, she managed to defeat former-world-No.1 Kim Clijsters in the fourth round with a score of 6-1 6-1, an absolutely impressive feat against a former world champion. Her triumphs this year include coming out as the runner-up at Apia International Sydney in January, and the Qatar Total Open in February.
Ana Ivanovic (EZONE Ai 98) is also in the tournament as the eleventh seed. She recently earned her first title on a grass court at the Aegon Classic on June 15th. She’s boasted improved performance on grass recently, and can approach Wimbledon with confidence. She made it to the semifinals in 2007’s tournament, defeating then world No.9 Nadia Petrova. She’s had a good season recently—in addition to her win at the Aegon Classic, she won at the ASB Classic, defeating Venus Williams in the final. She also won at the Monterrey Open, defeating third-seeded and former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki on her way to the final.
Stan Wawrinka (VCORE Tour G, SHT-PRO) is the number five seed. He won the title at this year’s Australian Open, defeating both Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, marking the first time a player has defeated both top-two seeds on the way to a Grand Slam title since 1993. He also won at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters against Roger Federer, and just recently made it to the semifinals at the Aegon Championships.
Stan will be wearing YONEX’s London Model (10120EX, 15031EX) of tennis wear, outfitted with YONEX’s unique VERY COOL technology. VERY COOL absorbs heat and sweat granting players a 3-degree-C reprieve from the heat, as well intercepts UV rays, allowing players to keep their cool when the match is burning up. YONEX shirts are also infused with an antibacterial liquid that keeps bacteria from breeding, and results in fresh-smelling clothes, even after long, hot matches. YONEX shirts and shorts are also resistant to static electricity, allowing players to change their clothes comfortably.
