Worldwide wins for Team Yonex including Sevastova, Johnson and Peralta

Date
23 July 2018

This past Sunday was a big day for #TeamYonex players, as they hoisted trophies around the globe. At the BRD Bucharest Open, No. 1 seed Anastasija Sevastova (LAT) took home her third career WTA Singles title. While on the other side of the Atlantic, in Newport, Rhode Island, third-seeded Steve Johnson (USA) claimed his second title of the year at the Dell Software Hall of Fame Open. And at the SkiStar Swedish Open, Julio Peralta (CHL) claimed his fifth title in men’s doubles.

In the finals in Bucharest, Sevastova was the top seed, where she came up against Petra Martic (CRO) in the final, who had handed her a 6-1, 6-1 loss at Roland Garros last year in their only previous meeting. After a hotly contested first set, Sevastova rode her 30 winners to victory, 7-6 (4), 6-2. It was sweet revenge for the Latvian who made the finals here in 2016 but took runner-up to Simona Halep.

Meanwhile, at the Hall of Fame Open, Johnson faced first-time World Tour Finalist, Ramkumar Ramanathan, on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Johnson had not lost more than three games on his way to the final but Ramanathan was determined not to make it easy for the American. In the end, however, Johnson won 83 percent of his first-serve points to win the match 7-5, 3-6, 6-2, and his second title on grass.

Finally, in Sweden, Peralta and partner Horacio Zeballos (ARG) breezed past the Italian pair of Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini 6-3, 6-4 to lift their fifth team title.
