The 2nd-Generation ASTREL: Premium Performance

TOKYO, Japan — Yonex Co., Ltd. is proud to announce the launch of the 2nd-generation ASTREL racquet on June 18, 2020. Geared towards recreational and doubles players, the premium ASTREL series isengineered to promote longevity in tennis with a focus on comfort and easy power.

Former top-5 WTA player Kimiko Date (JPN) worked with Yonex to help develop the new ASTREL “for those who want to pick up the sport of tennis or current players who want to enjoy tennis for their entire life.”

“The racquet has a soft and comfortable response with easy power,” said Date, who chose the Dark Navy color for the ASTREL 105, her current racquet of choice.

In addition to the ASTREL 105 and ASTREL 115  head sizes, the new ASTREL 100 has been added to the new line-up.

Already boasting a 7% larger sweet spot from the ISOMETRICTM square-shaped frame1, the ASTREL also has an added 2.9% larger sweet spot from its new throat and grommet designs.

To further elongate the strings, a new throat trench is incorporated at the bottom of the frame, while Liner Tech at the top promotes more string movement. Quad Force Gear is added at the outer corners to increase the cross-section height for increased frame stability and power.

The Tri-Shut System combines VDM (Vibration Dampening Mesh) in the grip, Shockless Grommets in the yoke above the throat, and VIBSLAYER CARBON at the top of the frame for more shock absorption while maintaining power. The three comfort-focused technologies combine to reduce harsh vibrations resulting in less strain on the arm.

This lightweight series uses React Resin – a high strength, high durability resin combined with carbon graphite – to keep the racquet light and flexible. In addition to improving frame stability and power, Quad Force Gear is also integrated within the frame structure to improve maneuverability.

3. VDM (Vibration Dampening Mesh) – filters unwanted vibrations within the grip

For a larger sweet spot and improved maneuverability
The four corner grommets are integrated within the frame structure to improve maneuverability and increase the cross-section height for increased frame stability and power.

For improved power and comfort
Straight hole grommets elongate the strings to optimize power and comfort on off-center shots.

Enhanced sweet spot
A square-shaped ISOMETRICTM racquet generates a 7% larger sweet spot for greater control without sacrificing power.

6th-Generation EZONE: TOUR and extended length models added to line-up

TOKYO, Japan — The 6th-generation EZONE series has already achieved global recognition since launching in January 2020. With a focus on easy power and unmatched comfort, the EZONE series features the largest sweet spot1 in Yonex history through ISOMETRICTM expansion and was developed for players of all levels.

Now, the power-oriented series has added three new specs to its line-up – EZONE TOUR, EZONE 98+, and EZONE 100+  – targeting intermediate to advanced players.

Added for the first time to the EZONE series of racquets, the EZONE TOUR features a 98 head size and is the heaviest EZONE available, weighing 315g / 11.1oz and comes with an added boost compared to the EZONE 98. With the balance being 5mm more and the base composition being softer, the EZONE TOUR has more power and control for experienced players.

For the EZONE 98+ and EZONE 100+, a half inch is added to the current EZONE 98 and EZONE 100 for baseliners looking for greater reach and more power. In comparison, the long-body frames are more head heavy compared to the standard length EZONE’s (27in.), resulting in more pace on the ball.

The EZONE 98+ and EZONE 100+ will launch on May 22, 2020 while the EZONE TOUR will launch on July 24, 2020. For availability, please check with your local Yonex representative or authorized retailer.

EZONE series receives worldwide recognition

TOKYO, Japan — The EZONE received worldwide recognition for its playability just months after launching in January 2020.

The EZONE 98 is the 2020 Editor’s Choice for having the “Most Universal Appeal.” Play testers reviewed 23 racquets across eight brands for Tennis Magazine, the longest-standing and most-influential publication in tennis.

“Ground strokes were so routine, it almost felt like cheating,” said one of the testers.

In Germany, Tennis MAGAZIN named the EZONE 100 “Test Sieger (Winner),” an award given to the top-3 racquets in the market. Testers commented that the racquet was the complete package after scoring a near-perfect – 9/10 – on all four categories measured: control, power, feel, and appearance.

The award-winning EZONE series achieves the desirable combination of power and flex with a plush feel and was developed for players of all levels.

Axelsen Brings Denmark First All England Men's Singles Gold Since 1999

BIRMINGHAM, England – Coming out of a tense 3-gamer with Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia in the semifinals, Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen faced a similarly tough opponent, Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in the YONEX All England finals. Axelsen entered the match with great focus and consistency, allowing him to keep control throughout most rallies. Maintaining the lead for majority of the match, Axelsen defeated Chou Tien Chen in 46 minutes with a score of 21-13, 21-14.

This victory marks the first All England championship title in the men’s singles category from Denmark since the Legend, Peter Gade, defeated fellow Legend, Taufik Hidayat, in an iconic 3-game match in 1999.

The YONEX All England was Axelsen’s debut of the latest ASTROX model, the ASTROX 100. Although the German Open was intended to be the racquet’s debut, Axelsen displayed great confidence in the ASTROX 100 while playing on the great stage in Birmingham. The ASTROX 100 was also utilized by the men’s doubles champion, Hiroyuki Endo (JPN).

Axelsen previously posted an unboxing video of the ASTROX 100, expressing his initial impression of the new model. Within the video, Axelsen mentions his plans to release a formal review for his fans after thorough testing.

ASTROX 100: The Next Level of Power and Versatility

YONEX is proud to announce the latest addition to the ASTROX series — the ASTROX 100. Designed with a slimmer shaft and an advanced Rotational Generator System, this new badminton racquet was created for advanced players. Set for release late March 2020.

By developing racquet technologies in weight distribution, shaft, frame shape and cap, the ASTROX 100 enables access to power that controls the quick changes of pace in the game.

The innovative Rotational Generator System, introduced through the ASTROX series earlier, has been further enhanced for the ASTROX 100. More precise weight distribution throughout the grip end, frame top and the joint increases the rotational power. These enhancements ensure the momentum for quicker consecutive shots. Namd*1, which produces more flex and a faster snapback, is used throughout the frame and shaft, unleashing dramatic steep power. The synergy created from the Rotational Generator System enables continuous powerful attacks.

The already slim shaft has been modified utilizing a high-quality graphite material, creating the slimmest shaft*2 to date in Yonex. It provides a smoother follow-through by reducing air resistance and generates rotational power through more flex and a faster snapback.

The original ISOMETRIC frame has also evolved into a more ISOMETRIC shape, expanding the sweet spot. Designed for reduced power loss from off-center shots, the 2.9% larger sweet spot increases power.

The ASTROX 100 offers two models, ASTROX 100 ZZ and ASTROX 100 ZX, both designed to achieve the same concept performance.

Viktor Axelsen (DEN), Chou Tien Chen (TWN), Akane Yamaguchi (JPN) and other #TeamYonex athletes will make their debut using the new ASTROX 100 ZZ during the 2020 season.

*1 Namd is a technology developed by Nitta Corporation to “uniformly disperse carbon nanotubes into carbon fiber composites".

*2 Hyper Slim Shaft in ASTROX 100 ZZ

Common technologies throughout the ASTROX 100 series.

1. Expanded Sweet Spot in Modified Frame

Compared to regular round frames, Yonex’s original ISOMETRIC frame creates a wider sweet spot. The ASTROX 100 frame has been slightly modified into an even more square-like shape, increasing the already wide sweet spot by 2.9%*1, while maintaining the same overall frame size. Benefits of this evolved ISOMETRIC shape include increased power on strong and continuous shots even if they don’t hit the center of the racquet.

2. Newly Designed Cap: E.B.CAP PLUS

A new structure reduces shaft twisting and increases its flexibility. Thumb fitting shape transmits even more power to the shuttle.

Differences between the ASTROX 100 ZZ and the ASTROX 100 ZX models.

3. Advanced Rotational Generator System

The new innovative Rotational Generator System precisely distributes weight to the top of the frame, joints, and the end of the racquet grip.

In ASTROX 100 ZZ, Black Micro Core material at the top of the frame increases rigidity by 4% and vibration absorption by 2%*1. While the use of Black Micro Core material puts more weight on the head of the frame. A new built-in T-joint, which is 1.3%*1 lighter than any other Yonex racquet, allows the racquet to have a lower weight distribution. By redesigning the racquet’s weight distribution in this manner, high rotational power needed for strong continuous smashes is generated.

4. Improved Swing-ability and Resilience: Slim Shaft

ASTROX 100 ZZ : Hyper Slim Shaft

Designed with the slimmest shaft in the history of Yonex racquets*1, this ASTROX model, traditionally hollow inside, uses graphite material in the core, resulting in an 11.8%*1 reduction in air resistance. By making the shaft solid, resilience is increased, further allowing strong continuous shots.

ASTROX 100 ZX: Extra Slim and Rexis Shaft

Rexis is a high-performance shaft precisely designed through an advanced molding technique with High-Quality, ingenuitive, Performance Graphite material. It has surpassed Yonex’s quality standards.

5. Revolutionary New Graphite Namd

By utilizing high quality Namd graphite throughout the shaft and frame of both models more flex is produced with a faster snapback, unleashing dramatic steep power. The material stays flexible even with increased swing speed, bending when swing speed increases and restoring its original hard shape at the end of the swing. The ability to bend even further and snap back rapidly, produces stronger shots and greater smash speeds.
