Germany Crowns European Mixed Team Championships Title

The greatest team event of badminton in Europe, European Mixed Team Championships was held from February 12th to 17th in Ramenskoe, Moscow region of Russia. In the final on Sunday, Germany made a history by defeating Denmark in the final to end its dominance for more than a decade. Denmark won the nail-biting match against England in the semifinal, however, Germany defeated the giant team by a straight, 3-0.


Marc Zwiebler(VTZF) of men’s singles won all the matches to lead Germany team throughout the event. Facing higher ranked Hans-Kristian Vittinghus, Marc played an exciting three games, 21-17 7-21 21-8 to give a 2-0 lead for Germany following women’s singles winning.


Against world No. 3 pair Kamilla Rytter Juhl(NR800) and Christinna Pedersen(NR800), Birgit Michels(NS7000) and Juliane Schenk showed a superb attacking and defense to win five points in a row from 14-17 to 19-17 in the first game. Birgit and Juliane took an initiative to lead the second game and closed the match by 21-19, 21-15 to capture the title of championships for Germany.
