Kerber is ranked No. 6 in the world

The Western & Southern Open was held from August 11th to 19th in Cincinnati. No. 5 seed Angelique Kerber (VCORE 100S) became the finalist in the tournament.

In the quarterfinals, Angelique met No. 2 seed Serena Williams who won singles and doubles titles in this yearfs Wimbledon. Angelique played aggressively against such a big name, and she defeated the American in straight sets by 6-4 6-4.

Angelique is about to rise to No. 6 in the new world ranking as of Monday, August 20th. It will be the highest ranking in her career.

It was an exceptional week for Angelique, although she lost in the final against Li Na, 6-1 3-6 1-6.

In the womenfs doubles, No. 5 seeds Andrea Hlavackova (RQiS 2 Tour, PTGP125) / Lucie Hradecka defeated No. 8 seeds Zheng Jie (EZONE Xi 98, PTGSPN) / Katarina Srebotnik in the final by 6-1 6-3. It's ninth WTA doubles titles for the Czech pair.
