In the quarterfinals, Angelique met No. 2 seed Serena Williams who won singles and doubles titles in this yearfs Wimbledon. Angelique played aggressively against such a big name, and she defeated the American in straight sets by 6-4 6-4.
Angelique is about to rise to No. 6 in the new world ranking as of Monday, August 20th. It will be the highest ranking in her career.
It was an exceptional week for Angelique, although she lost in the final against Li Na, 6-1 3-6 1-6.
In the womenfs doubles, No. 5 seeds Andrea Hlavackova (RQiS 2 Tour, PTGP125) / Lucie Hradecka defeated No. 8 seeds Zheng Jie (EZONE Xi 98, PTGSPN) / Katarina Srebotnik in the final by 6-1 6-3. It's ninth WTA doubles titles for the Czech pair.
