Kyrgios claims his sixth career title; Chung returns from injury with a victory

WASHINGTON DC – Nick Kyrgios (AUS) claimed the Citi Open title with a win against World No.10 Daniil Medvedev (RUS) in straight sets, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (4). Kyrgios closed off the match with an ace, marking his 110th ace of the week.

En route to the finals was the tournament’s most anticipated match where Kyrgios faced the first seed – and his doubles partner – Stefanos Tsitsipas (GRE). In a blockbuster match, Kyrgios inched closer to his sixth ATP title with 19 aces and a victory in three sets 6-4, 3-6, and 7-6 (7).

"This has honestly been one of my favorite weeks of my life. I’ve made massive strides," he said. Kyrgios jumped 25 spots after claiming the championship title, and is now ranked No. 27.

On the women’s side, Jessica Pegula (USA) captured her first WTA title at the Citi Open. In straight sets, she overcame Italy’s Camila Giorgi and is now sitting at a career-high No. 55 ranking.

Returning from injury, 2018 Australian Open semifinalist Hyeon Chung (KOR), claimed the title at the Chengdu Challenger – his first tournament back. Continuing his come back, Chung is looking for back-to-back victories going into this week’s Yokkaichi Challenger.
