Marin, Ivanov & Sozonov Made History at European Championships

Carolina Marin (NR-ZSP, SHBF1NLTD), Vladimir Ivanov (VT80,SHB01LTD)/Ivan Sozonov (VT80, SHB87LTD), Kamilla Rytter Juhl (NR-ZSP)/Christinna Pedersen (NR800SHB-01LX) won the 2014 European Championships title in Kazan, Russia on Sunday April 27.


2011 YONEX Junior Champion Carolina became the European champion by defeating Danish Anna Thea Madsen (VT80) 21-9 14-21 21-8. Carolina made history by becoming the first Spanish player to win the title.


 Russian player Vladimir/Ivan also accomplished a historical feat by seizing the men’s doubles title, ending his Danish opponent’s dominance in this category since 2000. In front of their home crowd, Vladimir/Ivan defeated the top 2 Danish pairs, 2012 champions Mathias Boe (VTZF2)/Carsten Mogensen (VTZF2, SHB87LTD) in the semifinal, and Mads Pieler Kolding (ARC11)/Mads Conrad-Petersen in the final.


No. 1 seed Kamilla/Christinna defended the women’s doubles title by defeating Line Damkjaer Kruse (NR800)/Marie Roepke (VTZF), 21-11 21-11. Kamilla and Christinna both advanced to face one another in the mixed doubles final. Pairing with Joachim Fischer Nielsen, Christinna won the title by defeating Mads/Kamilla, 22-24 21-13 21-18.
