Nick and Pierre-Hugues Take Australia and France into the Davis Cup World Group Quarterfinal

Dubbed “The World Cup of Tennis”, the first round of Davis Cup World Group was held over the weekend between February 3rd and 5th. The first round pits 16 countries against each other for a chance to reach the quarterfinals. Japan faced off against the veteran French team in Tokyo, while in Melbourne, Australia played against the Czech Republic.



Men’s doubles World No. 2 Pierre-Hugues Herbert (VCORE Duel G 97, POLYTOUR FIRE 125) played with the seasoned French team in doubles and singles. His brilliant performance in doubles contributed greatly to pushing France into the quarterfinals. Paired with Nicolas Mahut, they defeated the Japanese pair of Yuichi Sugita and Yasutaka Uchiyama in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. Representing Japan, Team Yonex player Yoshihito Nishioka (VCORE SV 98, POLYTOUR SPIN, POWER CUSHION FUSIONREV2), competed in the second rubber against Gilles Simon. He boasted his characteristic tenacity and put up a good game against his opponent, but was unable to pull off a win. France defeated Japan 4-1.

Nick Kyrgios (EZONE DR 98, POLYTOUR PRO 120) helped the Australian team beat the Czech Republic 4-1, also advancing to the quarterfinals. With his EZONE DR in hand, he soundly defeated Jan Šátral with his trademark aggressive play, earning a straight 6-2, 6-3, 62 win.
