Pierre-Hugues Herbert Grabs Singles and Doubles Win at French Challenger

Pierre-Hugues Herbert (VCORE Tour G, YONEX String) impressed in his home nation of France, where he grabbed both the singles and doubles title at the Internationaux de Tennis de Vendée challenger tournament. The 23-year-old made his way through a tough draw, beating two higher-seeded players en route. He met YONEX player Ricardas Berankis (EZONE Ai 98, POLYTOUR SPINSHT-PRO) in the quarterfinal, winning at 7-6(5), 6-2 in an 81 minute affair, securing nine aces and winning 85% of his first serve points. Meeting up with Marsel Ilhan in the final, Pierre grabbed a quick and confident victory in 57 minutes. Pierre dominated the court with an overwhelming 17 aces, and astoundingly won 91% of his first serve points. He also managed to secure three break points, with his opponent unable to make a single attack. The final score was 6-2, 6-3. With this win, a spot in the top 100 isn’t too far off. Fellow young YONEX star Borna Coric (VCORE Tour 97POLYTOUR SPIN) made it the singles quarterfinal in the same tournament.

Pierre also impressed in doubles with partner Nicolas Mahut. The No. 1 seeds dominated as they powered their way through the tournament, beating all of their opponents in straight sets. In their final match against Tobias Kamke/Pilipp Marx, the two won 9 aces and 90% of their first serve points to take the match at 6-3, 6-4.

Meanwhile at the Fed Cup Final in the Czech Republic, Angelique Kerber (VCORE Si 100) and Sabine Lisicki (VCORE Tour 97, POLYTOUR SPIN) represented Germany, making it into the finals. While the German team was unable to take the final, Sabine and her partner won in her doubles match against Andrea Hlavackova (RQiS 2 Tour, POLYTOUR PRO 125)/Lucie Hradecka.

Pierre, Borna, Angie, and Sabine are all stunning their opponents with the power of the VCORE series. Made for players want to overpower with offensive play, the VCORE offers control, spin and power. The newest addition to the series, the VCORE Si bites down on the ball, giving it more spin than ever before. Check out the commercial for the VCORE Si featuring Juan Monaco (VCORE Si 98).
