Roland Garros: The Final Days

The competition is heading fast to its climax as the second week of Roland Garros approaches its conclusion.

Mixed Doubles Showdown

Martina Hingis (EZONE DR 100, POLYTOUR PRO 125, POWER CUSHION ECLIPSION L) and partner Leander Paes (POWER CUSHION ECLIPSION) rushed through two mixed doubles matches on June 2nd, booking a place in the final against Sania Mirza and Ivan Dodig.

The quarterfinal put the duo against No. 5 seeds Elena Vesnina and Bruno Soares. Martina and Leander conquered in two sets, closing out the match at 6-4, 6-3. They would proceed to face Czech pair Andrea Hlavackova (Yonex Racquet, POLYTOUR PRO 125) and Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the semifinal in a more lopsided contest.

The Swiss-Indian team confidently grabbed the opening set 6-3, but their Czech counterparts would strike back, winning set 2 at the same score. Climaxing in a deciding third set, Martina and Leander prevailed at 6-3, 3-6, 10-7.

Stan’s Journey to Glory

With sights set firmly on a second straight Roland Garros title, Stan Wawrinka (VCORE Duel G 97, POWER CUSHION ECLIPSION) heads into his semifinal match against Andy Murray today. The two last met in the round robin stage of the 2015 ATP World Tour Finals , where Stan would win in straight sets, 7-6(4), 6-4. Furthermore, a look back at the two rivals’ history reveals that Murray has yet to defeat Stan on clay.

If Stan reaches the finals, he is likely to face Novak Djokovic in a repeat of last year. It sure is shaping up to be an exciting weekend in Paris!
